That Bit Of Narcissism

Childhood

As warped tv antennas covered in tinfoil recepted "Jackie Chan Adventures" on the boxy black tv, a nearby couch cushion fortress gave birth to a husky Chinese boy. His parents entertained the idea of naming him Brocc Lee, which in retrospect, would have suited his muffin-esque body. He slept on an air mattress in his mother's room until the embarrassing age of yesterday and didn't figure out how to tie his shoes until he was 9 years old...which explains why he's been falling for girls ever since.

He lived on a cul de sac, but had dreams that stretched beyond the end of his street. And while he would occasionally pretend the dial up sounds from his mother's computer were coordinates for blast off, he one day actually built himself a lego spaceship and flew himself to the life of a wanderer.

Adolescence

The sun was shining especially bright when he gave his first kiss to a classmate in a photo booth at a local amusement park. Investigators where able to identify the blur in the photostrips as an embarrassed and panicked individual. From that point on, he only put his lips to his own culinary creations, particularly mac n' cheese atop classic white Wonderbread. He had always liked keeping people at a distance. Perhaps this stems from the tragic and unexpected death of his Tamagachi.

A middle school later, a cold sweaty bottle of Smirnoff Ice was sipped slowly in a forgotten seaside region in France, as if taken for a well aged fine wine. With each gulp, he began to shed his baby fat, his over sized clothes, and the wires that caged his teeth. It was the first of very few alcohol purchases in his life, yet he remained constantly intoxicated on a girl named Margarita, his first official attempt at love.

Adulthood

Unlike his facial and armpit hair, development into adulthood was promising. He deceived naive freshman while working at the university dining hall by impersonating an English exchange student which foreshadowed studying abroad in the UK. The expensive text books had little to teach him, as the foundation of his knowledge stemmed from just beyond the windows of the dreary classroom.

While overseas, he encountered heartbreak and love in the same week. Transformed his mind into a compass and his eyes into a camera that his mouth had trouble explaining. Sixteen countries later he returned home, his pockets echoing stories from his voyages. From cobblestone streets to sun soaked meadows it was hard to believe that this was all a mere prerequisite to the travels to come later on in life. With a thirst to travel, a passion to explore, and a desire to live a life worth living, he continues to reach lands much farther than the end of his street.
